Benefits to Site Owners & Management
ATEX is an abbreviation for “ATmospheres EXplosives” and is the name commonly given to two Directives aimed at ensuring that potentially explosive atmospheres are operated and maintained as safely as possible. IndEx is a suite of inspection forms provided with Transform to help its users gain ATEX compliance for these Directives.
Directive 2014/34/EC, also known as ‘ATEX 114’ or ‘the ATEX Equipment Directive’, aims to ensure that all equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres meets essential health and safety requirements.
Directive 99/92/EC, also known as ‘ATEX 137’ or the ‘ATEX Workplace Directive’, aims to establish and harmonise minimum requirements for improving the safety and health of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.
The ATEX directive places the responsibility on employers to control and/or eliminate the risks arising from their operations which may contain potentially explosive atmospheres, and to ensure that employees have a safe place of work. This includes ensuring that equipment installed in potentially hazardous areas is safe to operate and properly maintained.
Transform can help you to gain and maintain compliance by demonstrating that equipment is regularly inspected and maintained. User configurable reports can be easily generated to provide the HSE with evidence that you are maintaining your workplace safely and efficiently.
1. Improved Efficiency
Recording inspections on paper, subsequent reporting and maintaining records can be a highly complex and time-consuming administrative task. Transform is a digitalized system that enables users to complete customisable inspection checklists on intrinsically safe mobile devices, with data uploaded to a centrally accessible database at the end of a shift. No more repetitive and time-consuming hand-written records that are then typically transcribed into Excel with no visible audit trail.
2. Proactive Maintenance
Transform can be utilised to implement a risk-based inspection strategy, scheduling higher risk items for a more frequent inspection or for a more detailed grade of inspection.
Regular inspection of equipment means that faults are identified early and, because the Transform database holds records for all your previous inspections, it is easy to see trends in data. This allows users to replace equipment ahead of time and possibly as part of a scheduled inspection. Again, reducing both engineering time and plant downtime.
3. Visibility

Work Management
The bane of any business is the threat of unplanned downtime. One of the positives of a well-documented inspection regime is that potential downtime can be spotted before it happens. Transform will help you to spot trends in your data to pre-empt potential equipment failures. Transform gives you the ability to take a proactive stance and do a planned repair or replacement at a convenient time, thus reducing the hassle and panic of having a failure during peak production times.
Data visible for reports
Once data is uploaded into Transform it is immediately available to report on. The tablet makes it possible to check and update equipment details during an inspection. Technicians are usually working offline when completing inspections, only needing Wi-Fi when they’re ready to upload the new data back into Transform where it is immediately ready for reporting.
Visibility to all who need it
There are so many reasons to welcome the visibility of your asset data. In particular, you can ensure that all your assets get the attention they need and that nothing is overlooked. Transform can also store all photographs and documents relating to each asset or inspection record, making everything available in the same place for full visibility.
Fully customisable forms
Transform incorporates IndEx which includes a suite of inspection forms designed to help its users comply with the international and British standard 60079-17 – Explosive atmospheres Part 17: Electrical installations inspection and maintenance. However, these forms are fully customisable meaning that they can be adapted to suit each clients exact requirements. This can include collecting data to help implement risk-based inspection and repair strategies. It also means that other templates can be developed for other applications. In fact, any activity that involves paper-based data collection can be replicated electronically using Transform. Our team are more than happy to speak to you about how Transform can meet more than just your ATEX needs.
